Since we learned that the web API was being developed concurrently with the video transcoder, our first query was an easy one: Will the transcoder API be made publicly available to webapp creators so they can include video in their creations?
The Netatmo Weather Station ($179; RATING: 7) is unique in this roundup in that it comprises merely two slim, metallic sensor tubes and nothing else. One goes outside, one stays in, and that’s all there is to it. They talk to your home network via Wi-Fi, and you use an iOS, Android, Windows Phone, or web-based app instead of a dedicated display console.
Begun in New York City, the gatherings are popping up in San Francisco, Minneapolis and suburban New York City, just north of the city. There also is talk of launching a similar group in London.
Steve: “This is amazing, I grew up here in America with Jetsons, Star Trek and communicators – just dreaming about video calling. And it’s real now.”
Virtual ads “allow us to really present ourselves locally to specific markets around the world,” Dom Balsamo, MLB International’s vice president of media sales and marketing partnerships, told FOXBusiness.com. “For the most part, our games are played on U.S. soil, so to get our international partners in visible space is invaluable.”

The stories appear here exactly as Assignment Zero produced them. They have not been edited for facts or style.
The patch also addresses another issue in Safari which could lead to arbitrary code execution if you visit a maliciously crafted web page.
Was Staffup Weekend a success? A few attendees I spoke to were keenly disappointed that the event didn’t provide concrete feedback about the work they’d done. Others expressed great satisfaction with the overall experience, even if it had not led to an actual job interview.
Brady Ellison is the top archer on the planet right now. At 23, he’s ranked No. 1 on the recurve bow, a feat made all the more impressive by the fact he didn’t pick up a recurve bow until six years ago.
The most amazing thing about this infrared barcode reader, which did nothing but read special codes printed in magazines and then take you to a website, is that the company convinced so many publishers to distribute them. During the height of the CueCat craze, hundreds of thousands were shipped to customers around the U.S. – including a half-million subscribers to Wired – whether they wanted them or not. They were ugly and almost totally useless, and most probably wound up in landfills within the year.
This is a small list of the overall observations. You may also see some of these observations popping up in other weeks as many observation programs consist of several observations over time.
A FedEx representative did not respond to questions about the claims and whether the company planned to take legal action against Avila.
Yiota Souras, senior vice president and general counsel for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, says the bill could deter future online traffickers. Without the law, “bad actors online would continue to see Backpage as a model of how to make millions of dollars from illegal activity (trafficking) with impunity,” she says.

In fact, Vegawatt is derived from the home-brew fuel movement that many trace back to Dr. Thomas Reed, who popularized a recipe to convert waste cooking oil into biodiesel more than 20 years ago. Peret converted his truck to run on straight vegetable oil, or SVO to home brewers. But he was troubled by the inefficiency of the process.
There is a long and glorious tradition of torturing leftover Easter candy. But many of the more sophisticated experiments involving Marshmallow Peeps can probably not be done at home. While you can replicate the vacuum experiment on done in the lab by chemistry teacher Edward Kent using an ordinary kitchen vacuum packer (as shown by Steve Spangler), the explosive liquid oxygen video should be only be done under laboratory conditions.
Maher backed off from his comment after advertisers reportedly threatened to pull ads from the show in protest.
Indie Hosters is focused on helping you own your identity, while Sandstorm is more about getting applications up and running quickly. To sign-up for Sandstorm, you need to use either a Google Account or GitHub account. Varda says that will change eventually, but the two projects clearly have different priorities. While Sandstorm is trying to build a new platform that makes managing servers much easier, de Jong says that he and Ozoux are trying to avoid writing any new software at all. Instead, they’re trying to use the best software already available and writing automation scripts to manage everything.
March: I’ve spent the last week or so in Chilean Patagonia co-leading a small, informal field trip around the rocks that me and several other students have worked on in the last several years.
“I’m not naive,” he said. “I understand the global economic marketplace. But I’d started asking myself: What’s going to be left after a while? Are we all going to be working at McDonald’s?” Ever since he launched the site, he has regularly had to remove items as manufacturers shift production facilities overseas.
WHOIS privacy services are a de facto tax on targets of online harassment: personal safety should come as a default, not as a premium service. But this premium service is, for many, what keeps them safe from real, imminent danger. The time is ripe to update WHOIS, but this is a step backward, not a step forward.
His father, a tourism worker, said he hoped that by studying well this year Elian “would get much better marks than last year, when he got ‘very good.”‘
Solar Impulse plans to begin flight testing its eponymous aircraft next fall and hopes to make a transatlantic flight in 2011, followed by the first flight around the world in a solar plane.
Then there’s the gap between arriving at sea level projections and actually translating them into good planning decisions. Typically, climate change guidance goes like this: The state funds scientists to study the literature, puts their findings on a website, and then tells planners to have at it. “This is a uniquely unsuccessful model,” says Behar. The reports are hard for the average person to understand, much less make huge decisions that require taxpayer money. Behar used that 2012 report for his planning, but “it was deeply flawed,” he says. Some parts were unintelligible to anyone without a PhD in oceanography or atmospheric chemistry.
A recent article in Russia’s Nezavisimoye voennoye obozrenie (Russian only, sorry) quotes Lt. Gen. Sergei Klimets, commander of Russia’s railway forces, as saying that the special trains were on standby in Russia’s Stavropol region, should they be needed. “The situation is very tense and requires additional measures to ensure the safety of steel highways of the north Caucasus,” the general reportedly said. “So if we get orders to move out, they will be implemented in full.”
Some of the most dangerous forms of cyber-attacks are those that target critical infrastructure such as oil and gas facilities, or nuclear plants. If one of these attacks were to succeed, it would not only be catastrophic for the environment, it would severely compromise governments and national security.

“Linux seems to make people happy. Why is that?” asked one journalist from a local tabloid newspaper struggling with a Linux computer.
“Frankly, I think the whole idea is fairly tasteless,” said Lauren Weinstein, the moderator of the Privacy Forum. “The analogy would be a bar putting out a big sign saying ‘come watch our patrons drink.’ How many people would want to sit on a sofa drinking with a bunch of people pressing their faces against the window?”
Also included with the $20 pre-order is an early preview of the game’s first chapter, as well as the ability to get the game a full week before those who don’t pre-order.
In the last few months, the Department of Defense agency tasked with funding science’s most far-out hopes has begun investing millions in discovering radical, non-binary ways to work with data. “Molecules offer a very different approach to ‘computing’ than the 0s and 1s of our existing digital systems,” says Anne Fischer, program manager for Darpa’s Molecular Informatics program, which has so far awarded $15.3 million to projects at Harvard, Brown, the University of Illinois, and the University of Washington. “The global community is creating data at a tremendous rate, and developing new approaches to access and process this information is critical to address looming shortfalls in storage capacity and computational speed.”
The breach was eventually linked to BroadSoft Inc, a communications company that partners with service providers, including AT&T and TWC, Gizmodo said.
