The idea for ToSDR came about in 2011. Roy, then a law student, had been hanging around the Berlin hacker scene when he met Michiel de Jong, a programmer, and Jan-Christoph Borchardt, a designer. The three shared an interest in digital rights activism and marveled, one day, about how easy it was for websites to change their terms of service without notifying users. What’s more, it was near impossible to make sense of how those changes would affect you as a user or make informed decisions about using certain sites. For years, the European Union had issued grades to commercial appliances to make it easier for consumers to understand which machines were most energy efficient. “You don’t have to know about how electricity works or how a washing machine works. You just have a rating which will tell you this is good, this is bad,” says Roy. What if they created a similar system for services on the internet?
Now browser-makers are starting to build these types of features right into their products. Firefox added tracker-blocking to its private browser mode in 2015, and Opera added an optional ad-blocking feature last year. Meanwhile, newer companies like Brave and Cliqz have launched privacy-centric browsers of their own.
“Apple open sourcing Swift is a fundamental change to what they have done in the past,” says Dale Willis, CEO of Exis, another company that aims to build tools for running Swift in the data center. “It shows that they see this as a language that can really have a big effect on the future.”
Microsoft’s “commercial cloud” segment is on a pace to generate about $15 billion in annual revenue. More than 26 million consumers subscribe to Microsoft’s Office 365 service that includes its Word, Excel and other popular programs. That number has more than doubled in the past two years.

“In 2007 when we launched the iPhone it was my privilege to make one of the first calls in the world, to make a call with [Apple designer] Jony Ive. I’d like to do the same on this occasion. I’m going to go ahead and call Jony.” Ive shows up on screen – it’s video conferencing.
The folks at DeviantArt, a website best known for hosting images of fairies and vampires created by gothy art students, have debuted a new browser-based drawing tool created entirely with web standards.
In hindsight, I now realize that while VR porn is different in many ways from traditional 2-D porn, the high that it can produce is significantly more potent and thus more dangerous. The combination of a realistic 3-D environment containing a person who is focused on pleasuring you triggers dopamine spikes that flat porn can’t touch. I remember the first time a girl whispered in my ear in VR—I could swear that I could feel her breath and the heat of her cheek radiating against mine. It sent tingles down my spine. That feeling lessened in later videos, so I realize that my brain was, in fact, getting used to the experience (desensitization).
Most of the documented impacts are in North America and Western Europe. Either space objects prefer to hit those regions, or the rest of the planet is mostly unexplored.

After the nostalgia wore off, reality set in… I looked up at the price tag that floated around $1,500 or so, way more than I wanted to spend. Geek Dad Translation: There are not enough lawns to cut, loads of laundry to do or dishes to stack for the wife to let me buy one.
These are resources I’ve turned to. This is by no means an exhaustive list. Please feel free to add your recommendations in the Comments.
Personally, I’ve always really loved the Thunderstone game, but I honestly haven’t paid a whole lot of attention to the actual story. The game has a dungeon crawl sensibility to it and that’s really been enough for me. But if you want more story, now you’ve got it.

Titled Dying in America, it showed that patients often can’t get—or don’t know about—the type of treatment they actually need to be comfortable and pain-free in their final months, weeks, days, and hours. This is probably tied to the fact that America only has half as many palliative care physicians as it needs.
Recently, Internet Gratis (iG), the biggest of the free ISPs, acquired hpG, the biggest free Web-hosting service in Brazil. Two free services getting together won’t make a profitable business, right?
Interior ministry spokesman Tobias Plate said “someone who doesn’t do their homework trying to make others responsible for not pointing out this homework needs to be done seems to me to mix up cause and effect.”
