If you want to get into Magic, spend some time on the Magic: The Gathering website to learn more about the game. There you can learn about the game mechanics, the cards, and the Multiverse where it all takes place, and you can download an interactive demo to see the game in action. You can also input your location and the site will tell you if anyone is playing Magic in public near you.
The problem with this answer is that even though it’s not technically wrong, it continues to obscure the way Binge On works. T-Mobile’s website, likewise, does little to clear things up. The frequently asked questions section of T-Mobile’s Binge On page does disclose that Binge On “optimizes” video from most websites, not just T-Mobile’s partners, but doesn’t make it clear that this optimization could result in worse performance for some videos.
True tennis aficionados can even download a small application that will display live scoring updates and news from the U.S. Open on their computer desktops. Since the application is open source, users can also program it to transmit their own news and data.
Despite my own beliefs in the capacity of children and their ability to do things that we never acknowledge (so never see them do), I was amazed at the speed at which they picked up the basic concepts using Pivot. After a few days they had realized they could create their own stick figures to animate and had begun to use the simple drawing tool to save their own stick figure props like beds, cannons and barbells.
Bolinsky, who was two years into a medical degree when he launched his first illustration company in 1983, has long wanted to use computers to animate science but says the technology only recently caught up with his vision. He spoke with Wired News about the discovery process.
And the third main rationale for Conley’s office is, well, mildly apocalyptic. In the late 1960s, when the space age was brand-new, the specter of interplanetary contagion ran high in the public imagination. In 1969, Michael Crichton published The Andromeda Strain, his novel about an extraterrestrial microbe that drops to earth on a satellite and wipes out an Arizona town. Two months later, when the Apollo 11 crew returned from their triumphant moon landing, NASA spirited the astronauts from their ocean splashdown to a hermetically sealed facility in Houston, where they were isolated, poked, prodded, and scrubbed with bleach for two weeks before they could receive their full hero’s welcome. (A priceless photo shows Richard Nixon using a microphone to chat with the astronauts, who are locked, grinning, inside a sealed Airstream trailer.) In those days, planetary protection was primarily about us—about guarding this planet against potentially virulent alien life.
When you visit carlyfiorina.org, you’re met not with a grinning image of the eponymous candidate and an invitation to donate. That’s strictly carlyforpresident.com fluff, and also where carlyfiorina.com redirects to. Instead, the .org equivalent displays plain white text against a navy-ish background that reads:
Jeremy Littau is an associate professor in the Department of Journalism and Communication at Lehigh University. He studies networked information environments and their effect on society.
Companies get delisted from Nasdaq for a variety of reasons, including failure to maintain a minimum level of corporate assets or fpr accounting violations. In addition, if a company’s shares fall below a dollar for more than 30 days straight and don’t recover within a set time frame, Nasdaq officials will remove the stock from the exchange.
“Six [WikiLeaks insiders] are on familiar terms with John Young,” he told Wired.com. “Their real names are exposed in their signatures and in their messages. They are using familiar, personal accounts to communicate with Young.”
Microsoft has been working on Hohm, code named Niagara, for about two years. The company did not disclose how much it spent on Hohm or how much it expects to make from the venture.
Wired: Digital video seems to have made the process of filmmaking easier for budding auteurs.
I really enjoyed the app, particularly since I’m the sort of person who likes to go for all the awards and achievements. Once you’ve gotten all the achievements, though, the replay value goes down. The iPhone version is tied to Crystal, a system for tracking your position on leaderboards and achievements as well as integration with Twitter or Facebook. (I generally don’t use this sort of feature but I suppose kids may like the bragging rights.)
Markdown was released under a BSD-style open source license, meaning the community can do pretty much whatever it likes with the code, so long as it respects the copyright notices and naming rules. Indeed, many ports of Markdown enjoy rather widespread support with numerous contributors and an aggregate community of active developers that the original Markdown lacks.
The half-hour program, inspired by Saturday Night Live‘s “Weekend Update,” will highlight the previous week’s political blunders, bad celebrity behavior, stupid criminals and unusual pop culture fads.
If you sign in to Gmail, YouTube or any other Google service, you can now use your existing credentials to sign in to apps outside of Google. Just review the Google+ permissions screen (outlining the data you’re sharing with the app, and the people who can see your activity), and you’re all set.
The memory card, known as Gruvi, is manufactured by SanDisk, and will be available in November at select U.S. stores for $40.
But that tactic may ultimately show a point of view for the group before all is said and done. As the November elections near and the issue forums get more heated, the nonpartisan groups may find themselves more planted on certain sides of the issues than organizers want to admit right now.
Moore won $20,000. Runners-up included James J. Rush and Jack Elcik for The Baby Boomers Guide to Coping With Middle Age and Geoffrey Clarkson for the novel Day Trader.
My favorite part of the job…it’s just being able to work in publishing in general. I love publishing. Love books. Love the people in publishing, and the conversations and ideas and energy. I think I’m tremendously lucky to do this job!
Kim and his new partner, Bram van der Kolk, drummed up interest by sending out videos of Kim’s racing exploits, often by email. The problem was, the video attachments were too big, and the emails kept bouncing. Clearly, there had to be a better way to share large files online.
Shares of Japanese messaging app operator Line soared as much as 36 percent in their U.S. market debut on Thursday, valuing the high-profile tech startup at $9.34 billion in the biggest tech IPO this year.
To date, Hireology has customers across the U.S. and in Canada as well, according to Robinson, who is hopeful of more corporate growth globally.
“It’s like having a Schrodinger’s cat,” says Brunner, referring to Erwin Schrodinger’s famous 1935 thought experiment in which a cat in a box has a 50-50 chance of living or dying depending on whether a radioactive atom decays. In this case, the microscopic state of the atom is entangled with the macroscopic state of the cat: Either the atom decays and the cat is dead, or the atom doesn’t decay and the cat is alive. Until someone opens the box, the only way to describe the system is by including both the atom and the cat.
Cell sites can be a financial boon to those who provide space for them. Cell companies won’t discuss rent, but Donohue said companies typically pay $800 to $2,000 per month, depending on location, the size of the tower or antenna, and other factors. That can be a significant amount for a struggling school district or a church with stagnant or declining membership.
And that’s a problem, for MRSA, for influenza, and for any number of other potentially zonotic diseases: We cannot anticipate the movement of pathogens from animals to humans if we don’t know what’s in the animals to start with. That’s the argument behind the “One Health” movement, which has been arguing for several years now for including veterinary concerns in human health planning. (The human health side would probably say that the animal health side just wants more money. This is also true, which does not make it unimportant.)
I remember the first time my son and I found the website. We spent two hours scrolling through page after page, laughing harder with each click. The rest of our family members had to keep reminding us to ‘keep it down’, as they were trying to watch TV in the next room.
DDoS attacks can also be used as a smokescreen to camouflage or draw attention away from other nefarious activity an attacker might be doing, such as stealing data from the victim’s network. Hackers who targeted the UK telecom TalkTalk last year used a DDoS attack as a smokescreen while they siphoned data on 4 million of the company’s customers.

One dilemma is that while some videos could be considered offensive or inappropriate for underage viewers, they don’t necessarily amount to pornographic or obscene material, which is denounced on YouTube, MySpace, Yahoo and Google.
“If you look at the top games in the app store, 99 cents is the price,” said Rovio’s Peter Vesterbacka (whose business card reads simply “Mighty Eagle”) in a presentation at Game Developers Conference on Monday afternoon. “There’s no point in arguing whether it’s good or bad for the industry,” he said – one buck is the sweet spot, and what remains is to figure out how to make your mobile game a success at that price.
But on balance, Gansler says, the Net is a good thing for politicians and everybody else. The more easily interested voters can get information, the better a democracy works. And Medill’s Gordon ultimately agrees, “the idea of more information on the Web ends up being a good thing for society and democracy.”
