If the negotiations between Sirius XM and Pandora come to fruition, the deal would come after private equity firm KKR & Co LP agreed last month to invest $150 million in Pandora.
“We have an Internet tag team who write and do promotions for the company full-time,” said publisher Dominique Riddick.
“We’re still investigating this issue, as the report was completed before it was made known. So far we’ve seen indications in both directions, so we can’t say for sure it’s being applied.
It’s always fun to read a book that you know won’t disappoint, and then it doesn’t. I came across a book recently that I thought might be that kind of story. I managed to get my hands on a review copy, and was very glad that I did. I enjoyed it from cover to cover. The book is A Whole Nother Story by Dr. Cuthbert Soup, who happens to be President of the National Center for Unsolicited Advice. Dr. Soup tells the gripping tale of the Cheeseman family and their adventures while running from spies and government agents. And a monkey. See, they have to protect their not-quite-yet-working time machine. Hilarity ensues.
“We can stop calling it LSAM or esoteric things like that,” said Constellation Program Manager Jeff Hanley. LSAM stands for Lunar Surface Access Module.
GD: Is the alpha version .21 the final version of alpha or will you continue (once the full version is released) to occasionally release updates to it?QCFD: I don’t think we’ll update the alpha any more, no. Obviously we’ll keep an eye out for improvements to GM for Mac (the lack of fullscreen capability still really bothers me) and we’ll put out a native Linux build if GM ever goes there, but those will just be support versions, no new features. The original codebase is creaking quite alarmingly, some of the new things we’re doing would be absolutely impossible in it. The rewrite has also made working on the game and adding content so much easier as well, we’ve got editors and in-house tools now, stuff we simply didn’t have before.
The consumer group says Microsoft machines have performed well in laboratory testing. But a subscriber survey found start-up and freezing problems. The devices losing their “recommended” status are the Surface Laptop (128GB and 256GB versions) and Surface Book (128GB and 512GB versions).
Nadella, who has been at the company since 1992, was promoted earlier this year, partly because it was believed he could help Microsoft improve its competitive position in mobile. Under Steve Ballmer’s leadership, the company failed to introduce products that rivaled the success of those introduced by Samsung and Apple.
GoMOOS is a working prototype for a planned national ocean-observation system. The program is also a test bed for new marine and weather technology. The sensors attached to GoMOOS buoys are monitoring phenomena that have never been measured before, such as Arctic Sea smoke, a particular sort of fog created when very cold air and relatively warm water meet.
“I thought no one would ever click on it, but it turns out to be very popular,” said Kremen, who plans on gathering more research on the porn predilections of the Web-surfing public as he expands the site.
Next up, an enhancement to notification center. Right from notification center, you can post to Facebook or Twitter now. You can tweet from anywhere. In Safari, you can go into fullscreen mode so the page takes up the entire large display.
Not all Carrier IQ’s customer carriers choose to turn on the “record the urls” function, but some do. How much data is sent to each carrier depends on how much they want. Some carriers might want the text-message data, for example, only when certain conditions are met, such as when a text doesn’t go through to the intended recipient.
LaGarda’s son David, 14, attends accelerated-learning computer classes for gifted children, and said he’d be interested in attending the camp.
For Tabriz’s team, the mistaken assumption that an average person on the internet can tell the difference between the symbol for a purse and a padlock has come to represent a fundamental problem with modern browsers.
Two weeks ago, Palm admitted that its m130 handheld couldn’t display the 65,536 colors the company had been advertising since the product came out in March. By using blending techniques, the company can display 58,621 “color combinations – approximately 11 percent fewer color combinations than we had originally believed” on the m130, said Palm spokeswoman Marlene Somsak.
This explosion of indeterminacy has been a long time coming. It’s not news that even simple algorithms can create unpredictable emergent behavior—an insight that goes back to chaos theory and random number generators. Over the past few years, as networks have grown more intertwined and their functions more complex, code has come to seem more like an alien force, the ghosts in the machine ever more elusive and ungovernable. Planes grounded for no reason. Seemingly unpreventable flash crashes in the stock market. Rolling blackouts.
This was Codecademy’s pilot project for helping a company train all its non-technical staff. Codecademy has gone on to work with several other companies since, but doesn’t have permission to name names.
In other news, the development company responsible for Hatch’s website, GSL Solutions, has purchased a site license for the menu system on Hatch’s site.
Last fall at GeekMom we wrote about guerrilla knitter Robyn Love’s “Messages to the Universe” project for Maker Faire NYC. Robyn had put a call out to fabric artists requesting donations of 12″ x 12″ squares that were then sewn together into yarn “flames” and draped from one of the rockets on the site at New York’s Hall of Science. Previously-collected messages of hope were also written out on cards and pinned onto many of the squares. At the close of Maker Faire, the knitted flames were cut apart, sewn into blankets, and distributed to the homeless through Warm Up Americawhile the messages were collected into an art book. For my family, the project was one of the most memorable visuals in a weekend stuffed with eye candy, and we were delighted when it won a special design award at the Faire.
Y-Cam’s HomeMonitor Indoor is a secure home security camera system that is easier than any webcam or baby monitor I’ve ever experienced. It’s very nearly “Plug and Play”, and if you choose to leave it on your wired router, it really is! With my never-ending search for a high-quality weather webcam, this is definitely a contender. It’s also secure for your privacy, a feature that’s less and less common in today’s world of open source and cloud-based capabilities. Let’s explore.

Dealing with the rigors of getting security clearance gave Scannell a particular appreciation for privacy. “Once you do that, you never want to go through it again,” he said. “You want to keep your personal life no one’s business but your own.”
Chapter 4 tackles machines, complete with a version of the Nautilus, a zeppelin, a flying galleon. All of these are demonstrated with pencil drawing techniques, leaving the color decisions up to the reader. Again, I found myself flipping back and forth between pages looking at final image and then comparing it to the steps it took to get there. I know artists probably think nothing of this, but I’m just amazed at how the simple shapes that begin a sketch evoke the final image.
Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said the fine is proportionate and serves as a deterrent to other companies.

“TPB AFK is not a fan movie about the Pirate Bay,” says Klose. “Neither is it a journalistic piece on copyright conflict. It’s an observational, character driven film about three guys whose hobby homepage became the embryo of a global political movement.”
