“I was appalled that the porn industry was trying to dumb itself down more – was that even possible?” she asks, presumably rhetorically.
The founders of CO2Stats, Ph.D. students Alex Wissner-Gross and Tim Sullivan, are repeat entrepreneurs who recently sold (to Santa Barbara-based SurfMyAds.com) a web-based business that prints the entire text of public-domain books on posters. They also run a site called Isonme.com, where people upload photos and get instant advice from strangers to questions like “Am I too thin?” and “What do you think of my new haircut?”
Version 3, its latest release, also has the ability to create shortcuts on the desktop and heralds new functions to help developers create fluid web-apps using the technology.
The spot showed up this morning on the Viacom-owned website iFilm , a webservice that allows users to upload copyrighted material. But just minutes ago, the page with the video looked like this:
There will be tons of noise about this report from every direction…..don’t read mainstream media summaries that try to present “both sides”…and don’t read your favorite op-ed columnist’s pre-emptive commentary. Just read the dang report!
Nextdoor, a private social network, found itself at the center of hurricane rescue efforts. The app provides users with the latest news from their neighborhood.
As a genuine part of nerd history, the pants were never going to be cheap – the starting bid on the action was $2,500 – but the final bid was a bargain when compared to the $70,000 to $100,000 value that the auction house had originally estimated. Hamill shouldn’t feel too bad, though; the $36,100 was still higher than another pair of Levi’s worn by Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain, which only raised $21,013 during the same auction.
At the same time, there was often an entertainment aspect to the sets. A 1940s Chemcraft set, for example, included a pamphlet on how to put on a chemistry-themed magic show. “It covers everything from how to make thunder sound effects and crackling flames to how to arrange a curtain between you and your audience and how to affect the air of an alchemist,” Frederick-Frost said.
Leif Johansson, 65, has been chairman since 2011. With the turnaround strategy in place and recent changes in ownership, it was time to step aside, he said.
“I didn’t feel the need to give him the real story,” Stanfield said. “I was hoping he’d figure it out when Jobs didn’t announce it.”
Harris posted the information about Hagel to her publicity website, and ES&S sent her a cease-and-desist letter, the first of three that she would receive from voting companies over the next year. The letter, hand-delivered by a courier, warned Harris to retract statements on her website that implicated Hagel in wrongdoing or face a lawsuit.
“We are disappointed with this outcome as it puts the PhotoStamps program into a state of limbo as the holiday season approaches,” Stamps.com CEO Ken McBride said in a statement.
It’s the kind of love story we adore. A slender beauty – the mid-century hairpin leg – meets a rugged old-timer – the cinder-block-and-lumber insta-furniture that’s graced so many a dorm room. They elope and produce a tot that combines the best traits of both.
All along, we have noticed that Craftzine.com has been growing steadily. At the same time, we’ve come to realize that there were more and more challenges in publishing CRAFT as a print magazine, especially with the costs of print and distribution rising, and diminishing interest among advertisers in print. So we’ve decided that Volume 10, our Celebrate Like Crazy issue, will be our last print issue and that the future of CRAFT is online.
It’s worth noting that China is the last major aerospace power to debut a jet-powered, low-radar-signature killer drone prototype. The U.S. has led the pack, test-flying no fewer than five UCAVs since the late 1990s and even bringing one unarmed variant, the RQ-170, into frontline service. Europe has the Neuron and Taranis models in development and Russia is working on a version of the MiG Skat.
“We delayed completion to ensure Fab 42 came online when we expected sufficient demand,” said William Moss, an Intel spokesman. “We’re making this investment now in anticipation of the growth of our business.”
GM: Are you worried the value of your degree will be worth less if CS is merged into EE?
NY: Absolutely yes. There is a concern that if the CISE department is merged with our ECE department then the research done by our faculty will suffer either because they will not get the support they need or because the faculty will leave, if the cuts are severe enough. This would hurt existing students – undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. alike – as research is a major component of our department, as indicated in the previous question. In addition, there is a concern that a degree that is not built as heavily on research will ultimately be less valuable and useful to students. Exposure to research makes students not only better programmers but also better problem-solvers, making them more desirable to companies that are looking for problem solving skills such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and other big-name companies.
Did *The New York Times *run a hit piece on a group of former generals working as television analysts? Or have the networks purposely ignored a major story that implicates them in Pentagon propaganda-pushing? Here’s your chance to fact check the media majordomos yourself.
The website lets people auction off their old PSP games, accessories and UMD movies to other PSP enthusiasts. Since the products are used, prices are generally less than the items would cost new.
This wouldn’t be in court if the support information was delivered to customers as a series of written manuals; SAP clearly would have been able to purchase the manuals from Oracle’s current customers. If the customer had promised not to resell the books, perhaps Oracle would have a breach of contract claim against that customer, but SAP would not have violated any statutes. And I doubt that buying printed manuals would have constituted an unfair business practice. Oracle would have been left trying to argue that SAP interfered with Oracle’s contract with the customer. Not a very sexy case.
Starz hooked me with their original series, Spartacus, and indications from the roundtable and the trailers are good this new show will be as involving, though in an entirely different way.

New York art critic Jerry Saltz, for instance, bravely attacked the venerable Museum of Modern Art, calling it “a madman who thinks it is king,”
The next day, Alter launched a Google form to test the “supply side” (recruiter speak for the workers), calling it the Tech for Campaigns Project. Blasted out through email and Facebook networks, the survey got re-shared, and eventually circulated through internal listservs at Twitter, Airbnb, Pinterest, and Netflix, Kazanjy says. It stated: “The basic idea here is that, in addition to money, our skilled time can be even more valuable and help ensure outcomes we believe in.”
Faviconist is built on two basic premises, that you shouldn’t need Photoshop just to create a favicon, and that most favicons are just a letter on a background color. As Mahemoff writes on his blog, Faviconist is for “the 95% of people who don’t want to micro-design their icons; the rest will still need to resort to PhotoShop.”
