“It’s basically like special effects that are being done on the fly,” said Zada, who handled the more traditional directing duties on the “Lost in the Echo” shoot.
“There is a good case to make that the rotation of the parent star is influenced by whether planets form around it or not,” says astronomer Marc Pinsonneault of Ohio State University in Columbus, who wrote a commentary accompanying the report in Nature. “The bottom line is that planets aren’t just debris left over from star formation,” he says. “Planet formation changes the basic properties of the star that they orbit.”
WikiLeaks spokesman Kristinn Hrafnsson said last week at a panel discussion in London that WikiLeaks had contributed “a substantial amount of money” to Manning’s defense. But upon learning Tuesday that the money had actually not been paid yet, Hrafnsson told The Washington Post that there was a misunderstanding and that $20,000 would be distributed to Manning’s defense immediately by the nonprofit Wau Holland Foundation, which manages the majority of WikiLeaks donations.

Or maybe it’s just my natural inclination to want to look forward to things without feeling like I’m constantly rebalancing my workload and my emotions. It’s not that sex wouldn’t happen if I didn’t plan for it – but it would not happen as consistently. There’s always one more paragraph to write, one more client to answer, one more deadline to meet or obligation to fulfill or demand to acknowledge.
Security firms, to be clear, have no evidence that those organizations have been compromised. But they point out that the same group that’s registered fake domains that seem to have been used in earlier Fancy Bear phishing and leaking operations registered fake domains for those targets, too. Any one of them might be a source of new, disruptive secret-spilling before or during the games. “In the run-up to the Olympics, we’d expect to see continuing activity from Fancy Bear and other APTs,” says ThreatConnect researcher Kyle Ehmke, using the abbreviation for “Advanced Persistent Threat,” an industry term for sophisticated state-sponsored hackers. “There’s no reason to think they’ll conclude operations just because of what’s already been released.”
In 2011, a café called Coffee Rules Lounge suddenly found its Google Places listing had been incorrectly updated as “permanently closed,” a common issue that cropped up around that time when it was discovered it only took a couple of people to report a business had closed (through a similar crowdsourcing system) in order for Google to accept it as gospel. Google seems to have made it tougher to virtually shut down a business only after The New York Times reported on it.
AMD (AMD) barely beat Wall Street’s dramatically lowered expectations for its second-quarter earnings and gave a grim outlook for the current quarter.
As far as money is concerned, JibJab hasn’t made much from the popularity of This Land. Spiridellis said the company made about $1,000 from donations in the past week – an option that’s come and gone from the site before. Pitted against an estimated $20,000 in recent Web-hosting costs, it would appear This Land has cost JibJab about $19,000.
