Karl Kesel and Tom Grummett, who worked together on DC’s Adventures of Superman, have returned to their independent Gorilla Comics project, Section Zero, featuring the adventures of an international adventure assigned to investigate and, if necessary, fight the strange and unusual.
The European Union’s imposition of a 13 billion euro ($14.5 billion) back tax bill on Apple is “total political crap”, Chief Executive Tim Cook said in a newspaper interview on Thursday, and anti-U.S. bias may have played a role.
Nextel has since brought down the pricing of its “Direct Connect” service to compete with Verizon Wireless, which launched its own push-to-talk service in August. Nextel’s cell-phone service plans start at $40 a month for 500 anytime local-calling minutes, unlimited night and weekend local calling and 4,500 minutes for Direct Connect. Long distance calls on the Nextel network cost 20 cents a minute.
However, it will be many years before the dream of a fully functioning space lab is realized. The centrifuge isn’t scheduled for launch until 2008.
“We looked at the commercial space and saw amazing opportunities where people are so used to programming as a service, just like the companies that use Muzak,” Lipsky said. “Thanks to Bill, we don’t have to explain the concept.”
The company’s shares rose about 4 percent as investors welcomed a further shift away the money-losing handset business, where BlackBerry went from being a market leader to trailing far behind rivals like Apple Inc.
“American architect Frank Lloyd Wright is supposed to have said ‘I ripped the damned rearview mirror out of the damned car window because I don’t want to know where I’ve come from, but where I’m going,'” said Wolfgang Bednarzek, press officer for the Ars Electronica Center. “We sympathize with that idea, but while debating the ideas for Ars Electronica 2004, we decided that there are plenty of reasons not to rip off the rearview mirror. That’s why we decided to make the past a participant in our show about the future.”
Many of the cases targeted websites that had posted modest excerpts of newspaper stories without permission, and some involved content posted by users of a website, instead of the operators. Nonetheless, dozens of the cases were settled out of court for undisclosed terms. By year’s end, Righthaven had shifted its litigation strategy to go after sites that crib newspaper images.
Each chair is comprised of little bits of material that come together to form a whole. “You can make that yourself for less than $30,” he says, pointing at a black and white version. That one’s made from 77 ABS plastic pieces (the same material that’s used in Legos) that have been snapped together. It’s surprisingly sturdy. “It doesn’t have any glue and you can sit on it.”

Oracle’s attorneys discovered two emails that suggest Google knew full well the APIs were copyrighted. According to Ars Technica, Android founder Andy Rubin wrote an email that read: “Wish them luck. Java.lang.apis are copyrighted.” And Sun, he wrote, gets to decide who gets a license to use them.
Remember how I said earlier that all of the information about the Schticky itself can be summed up in about 10 seconds? That pretty much holds up to reviews, too: It works pretty well. I used it to get some dust off a messenger bag and some potato chip crumbs off an armchair (don’t you judge me), and it performed exactly as advertised.
Next up: Pangea Software’s Brian Greenstone, who is going to talk about two games they’ve ported from OS X to the iPhone.
The pair were inspired by the work of Marc Herold, a professor at the University of New Hampshire who devised the counting methodology when the U.S. military invaded Afghanistan last year. Herold felt Afghan civilian deaths were a critical issue that was largely being ignored. Herold is acting as a consultant to the Iraq Body Count project.
“The negative effects of porn extend beyond the people creating it and the people consuming it,” said Robert Jensen, Professor of Journalism at University of Texas at Austin, and co-author of Pornography: The Production and Consumption of Inequality. “The evidence clearly shows that porn has negative effects on the entire society – it’s certainly a huge factor in the shaping of men’s attitudes toward gender, women and sexuality.”
I’m getting a lot less worried about it. The game is just really fun to play. At the end of the day that’s all that really matters. You can talk about whether its innovative enough or whether it would make a good GDC talk or whatever, but I really want to focus on “Is it a fun gameplay experience?” And I feel like it’s easier certainly to look at it and go on a website or to read a review or whatever and go “yeah, its just all the same” but I gotta tell you, when you sit down and play it, I don’t agree.
Hernandez-Rebollar’s device, in contrast, can translate close to 200 words and even a few short phrases, like “What’s the matter?” and “I’ll help you.”

Some question whether such a glove would present a setback for the hard of hearing. For years, organizations like the National Association of the Deaf have defended deafness as a unique trait, not a deficiency. It has pushed the hearing world to embrace deaf individuals rather than forcing them to use technology like cochlear implants to accommodate the hearing world.
