On to the third section – deliciously titled “Mythbusting.” It’s here that Microsoft calls out the competitors on four common arguments against IE8.
We tend to think of videogames as frivolous activities – something we do to kill time, not to improve productivity. But a new generation of designers is taking a different tack: Like Reeves, they’re using the principles of videogame design to transform everyday activities – helping people work more efficiently, use less energy, and get healthier. Turn the world into a game, they argue, and it works better. Give people a competition, and it can transform a dull-but-important task into something exciting.
Reuters reviewed the contents of the letter on Wednesday. A person familiar with its contents said it was the first time SWIFT had sent such a letter since the Brussels-based group was founded in 1973.
Several things make PGP hard to use. One is keeping your private key safe. If an attacker gets it, they’d be able to use it to decrypt messages other people sent you, and impersonate you online by signing messages with your key. Keybase is trying to solve the problem of finding other people’s public keys. “You can’t really do anything in crypto unless you know someone else’s public key,” Krohn says. “Otherwise, you don’t know you that you’re dealing with the right person, you could be dealing with someone pretending to be that person.”
We first reported last month, based on information provided by former WikiLeaks staffers, one of whom we named, that WikiLeaks is preparing to release nearly 400,000 secret U.S. Army reports from the Iraq War. In a second article on Friday, we explored how the largest leak in U.S. military history might affect WikiLeaks’ fortunes at a time of controversy and internal conflict at the secret-spilling organization.
What’s more, Toho said in its letter to Scandizzo that it “has no objection to Inert Soap’s use of Fingerzilla alone, provided it is not used with imagery attributable to the Godzilla character and films or used in a manner intended to trade on the goodwill associated with Godzilla.”

Van der Sluis takes seriously the tie between the use of antibiotics in animals and the emergence of MRSA:
The toy has evolved a lot since the days of bare metal and tiny screwdrivers. RC cars, motorized sets, and licensed products are now the norm, including the new Gears of War line. I have to admit to being a little skeptical at first; what’s the point of marketing a mature game to kids eight and older (the recommended age for these sets)? But it’s just a toy – and tons of toys, from Lego to action figures, have guns.
A multi-state effort with over 50 researchers is trying to track the spread of the pest and find ways to control it. As part of that project, USDA researchers launched a national citizen science project,The Great Stink Bug Count, to have people count and report the numbers of bugs they found in their homes between September 15 and October 15, the time of peak activity.
Our voice might be hoarse, but the show goes on. This week, we’ve got a new album from Major Lazer, a new comic from Marvel, and a new show from one of the minds behind South Park. That’s three for three, in case you were keeping track. Three what? We’ll be honest: We have no idea.
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor (DS)
What’s on the box: Seven teens with angular haircuts stand around looking too cool to talk to each other. The entire cover is saturated in red, and red glowy things float in the air (one is hitting the middle dude in his eyeball).
What’s good: Hey look, it’s the misfits you hung out with in high school.
What’s bad: Is this a game that teaches parents how to deal with angst-ridden, black-clad, Satan-worshipping teenagers? That’s what I think “Devil Survivor” means.
Verdict: Fail. There are enough game covers featuring a group of youngsters loitering. Show some adventure and excitement please.

The new rules expand the definition of clinical trials to work with human subjects that didn’t used to be clinical. Yet the NIH’s bureaucratic requirements still ask for information on those experiments that maps onto the old definition. And much of that doesn’t apply to smaller studies. The point is, if a researcher has to figure all this out, they might just give up altogether—and not do the science.
That’s understandable in an Apple-dominated tech world. There are plenty of successful companies with gorgeous products. And visual design is the most noticeable kind of design—it is what we often think of first when we think of design.
Prehistoric squid are rare fossils. Unlike their hard-shelled cousins the ammonoids, ancient squid lacked the hard, coiled shells that were so amenable to preservation. Even then, the soft parts of shelled cephalopods rotted away, leaving us with only an outline of what the mollusks were like in life. Only cases of truly exceptional preservation can provide researchers with a near-complete view of primordial cephalopods.
Hitchcock: Never enough. But we have all eternity in which not to exist, and I’m unlikely to produce this stuff when I’m not there.
This incident is an example of a practice that many in the industry would call “patent trolling,” which means using patents for little purpose other than to sue other companies until they cough up damages or licensing fees.
Do any of these executives, who represent more than a thousand stand-alone eateries around the country, think the industry is heading toward a recession? No. A “stabilization of demand” (as one CEO put it) is certainly happening. A strong U.S. dollar and competition from grocery stores is also taking a bite. And so are rising wages, healthcare and benefits costs. But each of these executives are bullish about their company’s future and for one big reason: their business model.
Yahoo is considered to be an indicator of the general health of dot-com stocks, and some financial experts are speculating that the daylong stoppage in Yahoo trading was an effort to keep panic at bay.
Americans across the political spectrum denounced the program, and in September 2003, Congress eliminated its funding and closed its offices.
