“Imagine you live in a suburb, and there’s a stop sign on your way home. One day you say, ‘Wait a second, every time I arrive here, I have to slow down for no reason.’ And then one day you pass the stop sign without stopping. And then nothing happens. What happens when you do the same thing the next day? Nothing happens. And the third day? Nothing happens. Tenth day, 50th day, 100th day – nothing happens.
Dinklage, as always, is a highlight. His character is high on ‘shrooms for half the movie, and thanks to his work as Tyrion Lannister, no one knows more about sauntering around a kingdom than Peter Dinklage. Yet, despite some legitimately hilarious performances (extra shouts to Danny Pudi and Jimmi Simpson) and a sweet LARPer-friendly story, Knights has its moments of clumsiness. Its tonal shifts are often abrupt, jumping between comedy and horror, and occasionally loses its footing.

On October 23, Doppler Labs founder Noah Kraft got a Facebook notification. One of those “On This Day” pop-ups, resurfacing a post from exactly two years ago, when Kraft had appeared on CNBC to make the case for his company. “We want to put a computer, speaker, and mic in everyone’s ear,” Kraft said during the interview. “We have very lofty visions of the future, everything from real-time translation to personal assistants.”
Google says it’s working with publishers to streamline whatever payment form they would like to pursue so that it’s easier for users to decide what they wish to pay for. The goal is to help publishers identify possible subscribers and build a better subscription model, Google said.
“Since copyright is intended to promote authorship and dissemination, it is best served by encouraging these deep links, not threatening and suing them out of existence,” said Wendy Seltzer, Electronic Frontier Foundation staff attorney and founder of the Chilling Effects clearinghouse, a project to study and combat the legal threats to the Internet.

Calors Kirjner of Sanford Bernstein, meanwhile, says he’ll be keeping a close eye on average price per ad in the U.S. Facebook has made headlines for expanding into ads based on offline shopping habits and activity on other websites rather than on social activity within Facebook; it’s not yet clear how these new ad types will affect Facebook’s profit margins.
