In Slaughter’s reply, which was later published on New America’s website, she urged Lynn to consider how his actions might jeopardize funding for his colleagues. “[J]ust THINK about how you are imperiling funding for others,” she wrote. “We are in the process of trying to expand our relationship with Google on some absolutely key points. I also need the current write-up of the event right away. Right now.”
In a message on its website, eBay said it continues working to fix the issues, which resulted from a software update introduced on Friday morning. The glitch also has caused problems with PayPal’s debit cards and its shipping functionality.
Reporter-shield legislation failed last year, and a pair of new bills has been languishing in committee despite garnering bipartisan support from a few dozen representatives and senators, including Sen. Hilary Rodham Clinton (D-New York) and Sen. Pete Domenici (R-New Mexico).
It is now nearly 20 years since William Gibson wrote his infamous article on Singapore which got Wired banned for a time. What saddened Gibson most was that our government might have found a way to have prosperity, progress and innovation without sacrificing central control and whilst repressing freedom. The thing is, he needn’t have worried.”JBJ. Very good man!”

Tablets are almost ideal reading environments. I don’t think, as some developers do, that the iPad is the ultimate. I think it’s heavy and cold, and makes my arm fall asleep when I read lying down. I think the software is a glitchy. Like great movies, great computer experiences are all about suspension of disbelief. If I forget I’m reading on an iPad and get consumed by the story, then the technology is working perfectly. The iPad experience is good, but there’s still a way to go. And all this business about apps is a real spoiler for suspension of disbelief. I’m clicking a link, expecting to learn more about what I was reading (that was certainly the author’s intent) but instead I get an ad for an app. If I seriously consider it, I’ve lost my train of thought. If I actually take the detour and install it, I’ve lost big time. The best way to minimize the loss is hit the Back button and skip it. But that’s a loss too. I clicked the link for a reason. And that was thwarted.
“It’s a very high standard,” she said. “It has to be a very substantial event. It can’t just be a hiccup.”
Indeed, a 2012 report by McKinsey & Co consultants found that conglomerates’ revenue on average grew by 6.3 percent per year from 2002 to 2010, while “focused” companies grew by 9.2 percent.
“They had no idea this was coming,” Edgar said. “This is going to help to continue to expand the list of people and organizations that are asking questions about civil liberties and Patriot Act powers.”
If you know of any other science websites that serve the Arab world, please tell us about them.
“People don’t want (tags) because they jingle – or for whatever stupid reason,” said Jenks. “We look at microchips like a VIN number on a car. It never goes away and no one can alter it.”
The central vulnerability TinderDrift exploits is Tinder’s surprising lack of HTTPS encryption. The app instead transmits pictures to and from the phone over unprotected HTTP, making it relatively easy to intercept by anyone on the network. But the researchers used a few additional tricks to pull information out of the data Tinder does encrypt.
It’s also where horror has been heading for years now, a natural progression from the first-person POV of the genre’s recent “found-footage” wave. It’s a marriage of classical horror and new-age technology. Unfriended‘s creators have fashioned a sort of Haunted House Movie 2.0: Instead of slowly walking down spooky hallways, the characters wait for potentially upsetting websites and downloaded images to load; rather than someone struggling to open a locked door as the monster or ghost approaches them, they’re frantically pleading with their web browser’s “Loading” pinwheel to cease spinning. Blaire’s laptop’s keyboard is now a modernized Ouija board, giving otherworldly ghouls once the ability to backspace, change fonts, and issue 140-character threats.
The case centers on an EFF client, the political community site Democratic Underground. Righthaven sued the site months ago after a user posted four paragraphs from a 34-paragraph Las Vegas Review-Journal story in May on Sharron Angle, the unsuccessful Republican Nevada candidate for Senate.
My first encounter with audio erotica was at the Adult Entertainment Expo a couple of years ago when I met the husband-and-wife team behind Sounds Erotic.
After playing the game for a while, I talked with Adam Fletcher, marketing coordinator for Gearbox. Just as enthusiastic about the game as I am, Adam is a true fan of the franchise and not just another empty skulled marketing tool with a script to read. He admitted to me that being where he was, the position he was in with presenting the game, was still very surreal to him. His excitement was that of a toddler getting his first tricycle. Or a D&D kid getting an original Dungeon Master guide. The first thing I asked Adam was the obvious question that is on everyone’s minds, how does Gearbox plan on living up to the expectations that exist for the highly anticipated Duke Nukem Forever.
Random House, the world’s biggest book publisher, is dipping its toes into the wild world of interactive fiction.
Despite that, Soghoian has been a leader in pushing the net’s biggest tech companies to adopt SSL by default, accusing them of putting users at risk by not doing so. In 2009, he published an open letter to then-Google CEO Eric Schmidt to implement HTTPS as the default for Gmail, Google Docs and Google Calendar. He later pushed Mozilla to turn Firefox’s search box’s default to encrypted Google search.
