As discussions continued, plans firmed. The only shower would be housed in a clear geodesic dome located next to the pods and in full view of the banqueting hall, close to actually public toilets and an interrogation room in which podwellians would be grilled to the point of breakdown, both upon entry and at the whim of an Interrogator. There was to be a toxic waste dump, complete with flammable chemicals, and a subbasement nightclub called Hell, in addition to the most extreme installation—an operational firing range with an armory of pistols, rifles, and submachine guns. In a nod to the art establishment, Josh also recruited Leo Koenig, the son of a leading German art dealer, to curate a series of more traditional exhibits.
Founded in 2003 by a loosely knit crew of file-sharing advocates called Piratbyrån, or Pirate Bureau, The Pirate Bay began life as a Swedish-language site occupying a second tier among popular torrent trackers. Then the MPAA’s groundbreaking 2004 crackdown on torrent hubs changed everything. As famous sites like SuprNova and LokiTorrent went under, their users crowded onto the surviving hubs like pelicans on a reef. When the storm passed, The Pirate Bay remained.
We should be thankful they can be removed, and did not end up as permanent aspects of our cities’ architecture. We won’t be so lucky with some of the design decisions we’re seeing about internet architecture.
Food production carries particular risks. For its new brands Amazon will depend on manufacturers that may have varying quality controls. Any health-related recalls could damage Amazon’s reputation.

Along with rolling deals, the company is winning customers with its Prime service, which offers various delivery options, as well as video streaming, for a flat annual fee of $99+. The service is becoming the company’s cash cow according to Cohen.
“The entire rear case of the iPhone 5 weighs only slightly more than just the glass rear panel of the 4S,” they say.
This is a frustratingly vague way to talk about design of any kind, but for an institution as massive as The Met, graphic design elements must link myriad components, and must do so for visitors of all ages, nationalities, and experiences. Prioritizing simplicity and friendliness is a strategy for doing that.
In announcing an iPhone software development kit (SDK) on Thursday,
Apple revealed every major API to programmers except for one – no data can be read or written to the dock connector.
My next step was to find something to print on Thingiverse. I downloaded an STL model file of a Portal Companion Cube by Thingiverse user Poh, preheated the build platform since I am printing with ABS, accepted the default printing options, and clicked print. The software provided information on how long the print would take and an estimate of how much filament would be used as it started to print. After a few minutes to preheat the nozzle, the printer went to work. I sat back and was mesmerized by the print process. It is really amazing to me, still, to watch something print. Total time from bringing the box to the desk to something printing was less than 2 hours. I should add here that I had no previous experience with a 3D printer. I had seen some printing at the Bay Area Maker Faire and at the US Science & Engineering Fest but had never set one up, loaded a file, or done any other part of the process myself. I was familiar with the idea of plastic filament additive printing but that was the extent of my knowledge.
As the trial of alleged Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht approaches, his defense has focused on how the government initially discovered the Silk Road’s server in Iceland, in spite of the site using the anonymity software Tor to hide its physical location. In a motion filed last month, the defense argued that discovery may have represented a search without a warrant and an illegal violation of Ulbricht’s privacy. Then on Friday, the prosecution fired back with a memo claiming that the FBI’s investigation had been entirely legal, accompanied by an FBI statement explaining how the server was found.
“He said, ‘I think the Dunkin’ Donuts is going to get bombed,'” Gagnon recalls. “The cops were like, ‘Are you out of your mind?’ He didn’t know that was my logo.”
After Shohdy’s arrest, a few international human rights support groups, such as Index on Censorship, spoke in his defense. Since Shohdy is well-known in the Russian Internet community, many Russian newspapers published articles in his support.
Now if only lazy website developers would stop using IE-specific coding and join the non-platform-specific bandwagon.
And it is from here that I beg my father, for the love of his daughters, to stop hindering our progress as women in the industry and start using his influence to promote positive experiences for minorities in tech.
Some of the best design-savvy companies, like Apple, have figured out differing approaches that effectively turn every person involved into defacto user advocates, but then again, Apple has had three decades to institutionalize that culture. Airbnb’s approach does seem fairly novel, simply because it deals with a problem that bedevils any product company to one degree or another: Designers tend to design for themselves, whether they intend to or not. User research, meanwhile, often has limits. It’ll tell you what’s wrong, but it only rarely leads directly to great products. A true user perspective is something more nuanced, specific, intuitive, and independent.
MH: Most companies today are creating and using content to attract prospects and maneuver them into an active buying cycle. Because content so heavily impacts whether a company gets found and known online, having SEO audit tools built into the systems that marketers are using to create and publish the content (let’s look at MA and landing page creation or CMS and blog publishing) is an added benefit. It’s additional reassurance that your content is structured, written, and formatted for optimal searchability. Search engine marketing can be considered a hard skill—the frequent algorithm updates and changes in how content is valued—requiring marketers to stay up to date on the latest SEO updates. So, if an SEO audit tool is built into the technologies they use, they can lean on the system to ensure they are getting the most impact out of their content programs.
The FlyOnTime.us web app “allows the American people to make intelligent decisions around which flight to pick. The only reason this app can exist is that we release data from the FAA.”
“Criminals have other channels to get guns, but I am really more concerned about hobbyists and enthusiastic kids trying this route at home and actually injuring themselves in the process of doing that,” Lipson says. “If you make one and got it in the wrong temperature or was shoddy in any way, it’s actually dangerous to fire.”
But despite having a large number of sites running the ads (including Wired.com), AdSense/Doubleclick ads still account for only 30 percent of Google’s revenues. And, surprisingly, the targeting isn’t very good. You can go here to see what Google thinks it can deduce about you just from your browsing.
Jacobs did say, however, that it is not always crucial to have a website just because you have an offline publication.
Opera’s effort, dubbed OperaWatir, is the latest addition to the Watir test suite and joins the tools already available for Internet Explorer, Firefox and WebKit-based browsers. If you’re already using Watir for writing test suites (and you should be if you’re not) OperaWatir means that you can now test across all major browsers.
“Some of these challenges are new for the 2020 census,” the bureau’s deputy director Ron Jarmin said onstage at the Esri conference. “This is a foundational thing for our democracy. Much like elections, people that want to sow discord in our country might try to mess with the census.”
Phil Inagaki doesn’t like to call the Wove Band a smartwatch. The CEO and co-founder of flexible electronics company Polyera would rather call his team’s creation a “device” or a “digital canvas” than evoke the mental image of a wrist-worn timepiece.
Scientists and politicians come to the stage to accept honors. These people have spent decades trying to preserve Tesla’s legacy. Finally, Inman’s accolade—the Ingenious Fundraising Award—is announced, and he steps forward to applause more thunderous than that for the president of the UN General Assembly, who just preceded him onstage.
On the Internet, it’s easy to find simple programs like “UN Weapons Inspector” and “War Against Irak” (sic) that let the user commit various acts – unspeakable or otherwise – against Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and his regime.
