Forget about guessing software launch dates. For 2005, these forecasters predicted, among other things, that terrorists would attack near Las Vegas in July, that Vice President Dick Cheney would resign, and that rock star Jim Morrison would be found alive.
That’s a problem because the queried object data for our writer pages includes all of the data for that user, stored in WordPress’ “users” database table. That includes the user’s email address and hashed password. All told, this information was available on roughly 19,000 pages for approximately 1,500 writers starting in June, when we built the video page, until we discovered the problem and corrected the code in February.

Basically, if your magazine or website rates video games on a scale of 7.2 to 9.8, that’s how your reviews will be incorporated into the final score. This could end up as either an amusing novelty (Metafuture’s writer seems to enjoy imagining how much this will rile up fanboys) or a much more useful source for realistic aggregate scores.

And as the people at the bottom of the pyramid get wealthier, they will expect a seamless UX that doesn’t demand cultural sacrifice. The first companies to do this are going to find themselves with unprecedented growth and a whole new set of brand loyalists. The companies don’t have to be from within the culture that is being designed for, but we should pay more attention to the excellent examples of homegrown UX from other parts of the world.

A year and a half ago, Shaan Taseer, the son of the governor assassinated after speaking up in her defense, created a Facebook page called Letters to Aasia. The page has a modest following: 1,500 likes, maybe three dozen posts. Many are photos of handwritten notes in Urdu script; some, in distinctly childish scrawl, are addressed to “Aasia Aunty.” Some have names attached to them, but the page managers have changed most of them. The page was intended as a way of keeping alive the memory of Aasia, Taseer said—a digital memorial for someone still living but always haunted by the specter of violent death, in jail and out.

Mostly this comes down to understanding how business works and common sense. Unfortunately, those skillsets are in very short supply in Washington. That’s what needs to change.

But police Brigadier Denise Beukes told reporters Thursday there was no evidence to support that and there was a history of domestic disturbances at the couple’s home in an upscale neighborhood. In a press release Friday, timed to the letter from Congress, a group of child development and privacy advocates urged parents not to purchase Echo Dot Kids because the device and companion voice service pose a threat to children’s privacy and well-being.
The demonstration means a terrorist whose name is on a watch list could carry a passport with his real name and photo printed on the pages, but with an RFID chip that contains different information cloned from someone else’s passport. Any border-screening computers that rely on the electronic information – instead of what’s printed on the passport – would wind up checking the wrong name.
The new iTV may not address all of these problems, but at $100 it would be much more reasonably priced, and would presumably have access to at least some subset of the 200,000 titles in the App Store, as well as a small army of developers. That might be enough to move Apple’s television efforts from “also ran” to “not dead yet.”
