Researchers have caught their best glimpse yet into the origins of photosynthesis, one of nature’s most momentous innovations. By taking near-atomic, high-resolution X-ray images of proteins from primitive bacteria, investigators at Arizona State University and Pennsylvania State University have extrapolated what the earliest version of photosynthesis might have looked like nearly 3.5 billion years ago. If they are right, their findings could rewrite the evolutionary history of the process that life uses to convert sunlight into chemical energy.
Since the blowout sale prices, however, the company hasn’t been able to keep any TouchPads in stock. Retailers have been bombarded by customer requests for the cheapened devices, and dozens of retailers have reported completely selling out.
Many of the complexity problems in OAuth were solved by the creation of OAuth 2.0 earlier this year. OAuth 2.0 hasn’t been finalized, but it’s already been adopted by Facebook in its Open Graph API, and by Twitter in @anywhere. OpenID, however, hasn’t been updated since 2007. Three years is an eternity on the web, especially in the mobile space, which has seen the massive growth of the mobile web and the quick proliferation of mobile apps with social networking built in.
Stewart doesn’t think Silicon Valley is beyond skewering, and God knows he’s class-conscious. He lists the ways that he’s privileged: first and foremost he is a man, and a white man at that, which he notes gives him a huge advantage over being born black or a woman, and what’s more, he was born to affluent parents in an English-speaking country, at just the right moment in history for what he does. Oh, and he grew up on a commune.

So excuse me while I pervert a line from Ronald Reagan and proclaim, “Larry Page, rebuild those walls!”
The Federal Trade Commission said Cashier Myricks Jr., doing business as MP3downloadcity.com, has been barred from suggesting that his $24.95 tutorial and referral service enables users to legally download copyrighted music files, video games and “movies still in theaters.” According to the FTC, it doesn’t.
“Most studies that undertake to pin down some aspect of musical understanding or recognition must reduce the complexity of the music to a point where it may no longer be music. The test examples are from the lab rather than from the art,” he said. “(Music recommendation technologies) sound dangerous to me. I see only uses that aim at profit, or worse, control.”
The team decided that the new flagship phone would be designed for wide appeal, as opposed to the Droid’s more limited market slice (males attracted by a sci-fi, sharp-angled sheen). “We realized that so many user needs are being unmet,” Ron says. In his previous post, he had been frustrated that Google couldn’t easily implement its more creative ideas—stuff like getting an instant signal when you walk in a restaurant that starts a stream menus and reviews—because of unaccommodating hardware from different manufacturers. “To do those things you have to innovate in the hardware,” he says. “That’s what got me initially excited.”
The biggest challenge is to make a documentary which can interest the fans and the neophytes [newbies/non-fans]. I don’t know yet if the final product is a great tribute to the show, the fans, and a pop culture phenomenon, or if it will be a huge commercial for the fans. To find an answer I would like a specialist to participate, like a TV host, sociologist, or university professor to give some credits to the project. I want to tell my message, which is that X-Files was important, in two ways: Why did some people become huge fans of a TV show, and how X-Files could have been a huge influence in the media industry? If I can answer these two questions, I will be a happy man.
What makes this latest rumor fascinating is that it signals that while Microsoft is publicly calling for investigations into the DoubleClick/Google deal, the company has probably given up any real effort to stop the deal and realizes that the only way to fight fire is with fire.
By the next July, Bir Zeit had installed a rudimentary online learning system allowing students and professors to share notes, assignments and materials over the Internet.

Time to get back into the Mana cycle, I guess: Square Enix is about to bring back the tortured series. Will this be one more failed attempt, or the one that finally hits?
11:23 AM: “From a safety standpoint, we’re not prepared to undertake a program to go directly to Mars at this point in time. There’s a great deal of additional homework to be done,” Augustine says, noting that some people don’t agree with him.
He winds up calling the band several times, so much so that, almost 25 years later, he will still recall the number. Yet nothing about those talks can change the fact that Rogers is stuck in Goshen. He vows to do little more than get high and screw around, and he spends the next few years sliding through strange cities with his friends, always in motion but never really going anywhere.
