Any device Apple builds is just another phone without that critical syncing application. But with it, they have the power to freak out and challenge Motorola, Research in Motion, Palm, everybody. Whether it’s Tuesday or two years, this is the key to Apple moving beyond the iPod. Just wait and see.
Meanwhile in Waterloo, Ontario, a product manager named Tom Slee had noticed the same thing. Since 2013, Slee, like Cox, had been scraping vast amounts of Airbnb data and publishing it to his personal website, where he also ran blog posts denouncing Uber’s presence in Canada and criticizing the broader sharing economy. Given their shared interest, Slee and Cox had known each other for some time, and so they decided to compare notes. The numbers matched up: Both sets of data showed that about a thousand listings had disappeared from Airbnb’s site immediately before the company made its data on some 36,000 listings publicly available.
Horace Dediu, founder of Asymco, an independent analysis firm focused on the mobile industry, said many consumers buy new phones when they are due for an upgrade under the terms of their wireless plan, without much concern for new features or design changes. While other companies try to entice consumers to upgrade phones with new features, he said Apple “marches to the beat of a different drummer.”
The validation of many newly-discovered variants will prove difficult. With common variants of moderate effect it was usually possible to perform a replication study in a reasonably-sized follow-up cohort. For rare variants and common variants with very small effect sizes replication will prove much more troublesome, due to reduced power (and, in the case of rare variants, their restriction to specific populations). Validating such variants will require building up a case for association from multiple sources of information, including functional studies (see below) and incorporation of information about multiple variants from the same gene in different populations.
Underpinning Snap’s valuation is the company’s dramatic revenue growth since it first started running advertisements in 2014.
For the Absolut Angel contest, four finalists “performed” to win one of two $50,000 awards intended for the artists or arts organizations showing the most innovative plans to marry art and technology in their work. This year, more than 700 national artists and arts organizations applied, double last year’s amount.
Personally, I prefer Crayola’s Twistable Erasable crayons over the markers that come in the kit. The twistable crayons are easier and less messy for my son to handle. It took us a few days (and a few reprinted pages), but we finally finished our book! My son had a lot of fun coloring his story and I enjoyed spending some mommy and me time with him.
Fujitsu plans to introduce multitouch into some of its 12-inch screen notebooks in the middle of next year when it hopes the technology will be a little more mature, says Moore. But the company is still betting it will be convertibles and tablets featuring multitouch that will find greater adoption among users, rather than traditional notebooks.
